Documenting the Moments That Define a College Community
Western Nevada College is more than a place to earn a degree. It is an active part of the communities it serves, bringing students, families, faculty, supporters and local leaders together around education and opportunity.
Those connections come to life in moments both ceremonial and celebratory, from commencement and community traditions to fundraising events that help make education possible.
Challenge
Important events deserve more than a record that they happened.
They need photography that captures the pride of a graduate crossing the stage, the energy of a community gathering, the elegance of a black-tie fundraiser and the people whose support makes the work possible.
As Western Nevada College’s primary event photographer, MCBCreative has been trusted to document a wide range of those moments, including commencement ceremonies in Carson City and Fallon, nurses pinning ceremony, Associated Students of Western Nevada Awards dinner, graduations at Northern Nevada Correctional Center, WNC’s participation in the Nevada Day Parade and the Western Nevada College Foundation’s annual Reach for the Stars gala.
Each event has its own purpose, audience and personality. The photography needs to reflect that while remaining consistent with the college’s professional presence.
Solution
Our work with WNC begins with understanding what each event represents and anticipating the moments that will tell that story best.
At commencement, that means capturing achievement, emotion and the people behind the milestone. At the Nevada Day Parade, it means documenting WNC as an engaged part of the Northern Nevada community. At the Foundation’s Reach for the Stars gala, the focus shifts again to capturing an immersive evening designed around a new theme each year, from Fire & Ice to Moonlight Masquerade, while documenting the donors, sponsors and supporters gathered in support of WNC students.
In 2026, our role expanded beyond documenting commencement to creating something WNC had wanted to offer its graduates for several years.
We introduced a new professional graduation photo experience for the Carson City and Fallon ceremonies, photographing more than 400 graduates individually with WNC President Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe as they celebrated the milestone.
Rather than simply delivering an event gallery to the college, we created a seamless online experience where students and their families could find their photographs and purchase prints and photo products to commemorate the occasion.
It transformed a traditional “grip and grin” photograph into something more valuable: a personal keepsake of an accomplishment years in the making.
For WNC, it brought a long-held idea to life without adding complexity to an already busy commencement day. For graduates and their families, it created an easy way to hold onto an important moment.
That is the kind of creative partnership we value most: paying attention, understanding what the client wants to make possible and finding a thoughtful way to bring it to life.
